Set Fees and Contingent Fees
ICANN’s set fees for application are simple: $55,000 for the pre-Application (if enacted), then $130,000 upon submission of the full application. If the pre-Application process is not instituted, then the full application will cost $185,000.
ICANN’s has several contingent fees, but most cities will not need to pay them. These fees have mostly to do with contention between different applying parties.
ICANN also annually charges the greater of $25,000 or $.25 per name, in other words $25,000 per year until you pass 100,000 registrations, after which you additionally pay $.25 per name.
Other startup costs not mandated by ICANN are explored in further detail in our section on Costs and Benefits.
