The Barcelona campaign for a .bcn top-level domain is one of the first to announce its intention to apply in this round.
Catalonia, of which Barcelona is the capital, is pleased with its .CAT top-level domain because it acts as a beacon for Catalan language and culture, and has been enthusiastically taken up by the Catalan people. Although it contains only 35,000 registrations, the Catalan government considers it a success and has announced its intention to proceed with .BCN for its capital city.
.BCN will be run by a quasi-private arm of the city government, in keeping with European preferences for government-run municipal services.
